Current Dual-Mode Deploment Schedule
Hello,

I was curious about the current VWG Client (dual-mode) progress and deployment schedule?  I have read in a few threads 2009, but I have a major VWG application that might benefit from a client-side deployment model.

In relation, when I do build a VWG Client and run it from Visual Studio, it will launch the ASP.NET Development Server.  How does that/will that function on a real client machine?

Re: Current Dual-Mode Deploment Schedule

Hi,

Thank you for the question.

Gizmox would like to implement Visual WebGui Dual Mode within the next 3 quarters, however, since the smart client market is moving towards WPF, we would like to implement a WPF rendered client as oppose to a WinForms client. This means that the development paradigm will be left as is (based on WinForms API) but the client rendering will create WPF using XAML which will support the entire set of WinForms controls out-of-the-box and will enable fully customization of look & feel using tools like Expression Blend, adding additional WPF/XAML based controls very similar to what you can do with VWG and Silverlight (using the VWG/Silverlight SDK extension).

The WPF Dual Mode extension will be included in the VWG commercial offering.

I hope this helps you understand the roadmap better.

Regards,
Itzik Spitzen

Itzik -

Thank you for the reply.  Yes, that better explains your approach to dual-mode deployment.  I am not much of a WPF fan, but I understand the direction.

Thank you.

Hi Butterfield -

If you're looking to run your VWG as a desktop application - I have the solution for you.

No need to wait for Dual-Mode deployment to WinForms.  In fact, my clients have been running VWG as desktop apps for over a year now.  Instead of going to WinForms, I've found a way to run an embedded webserver on the desktop and thus run VWG desktop apps in AJAX and/or Silverlight modes.

Hope this helps!  Feel free to contact me if you have questions on how to make it work.
